SOCIAL WORK DAY

2018

Energising Through Our Community!

This year,

SASW is celebrating its

12th anniversary of

Social Work Day!

Social Work Day (SWD) is an annual event organized by the Singapore Association of Social Workers. It seeks to strengthen the professional identity of social workers, promote practice standards and professional conduct, educate the public, and last but not least, celebrate the social work profession.

The need for social services will continue to exist, and as the demand for social workers increase, similarly, we need to pay close attention to how we can bolster the quality of work life of social workers. Ensuring that they do not neglect their own systems of support is integral so that it does not become a deterrent in retaining skilled talent for the growing societal needs.

In line with the International Federation of Social Workers' agenda of “Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability”, SWD 2018 hopes to:

  1. Raise awareness on the unique role social workers play in constructing inclusive and sustainable living communities by opening the event to families of social workers, as well as members of the public,

  2. Shine the spotlight on the social work profession through outreach to the members of public by social service organisations and its partners,

  3. Show appreciation to social workers as well as acknowledge their support systems, such as family, by giving them a day of fun to build individual well-being and resilient families for stronger communities,

  4. Facilitate cross-sector networking and collaboration among social workers, building a supportive environment to share ideas, resources and projects in order to address the dynamic nature of social issues

Located within a fairground, the venue will see family-friendly games and attractions to promote a sense of community and play together with SWD 2018. Through incorporating play and bonding within the family and wider community, we hope to provide a platform for social workers to be recognized and re-energised.

The ecology of the social workers' selves and their community holds great importance in reinvigorating their physical and mental well-being. Through this, we hope to build a sustainable ecosystem not only for the society, but for the profession as well.

Sincerely,

SWD 2018 Organising Committee
